Overview
Concept site for a fictional Chicago barber shop, with a working in-browser booking flow and .ics export
A concept website for Lathe & Lather, a made-up three-chair barber shop in Avondale, Chicago. It is the kind of site a small service business actually needs: who they are, what it costs, and a way to book without a phone call.
The booking flow is the point. Pick a service, a barber or any barber, a day and a time, then leave a name and number. Slots follow each barber's working days and the length of the service, on a 15-minute grid, in Chicago time. Your bookings are kept in the browser and block their slots; the confirmation gives you a calendar file, or lets you cancel and free the slot. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the site says so at the top.

Engineering
How it was built
Frontend
- Vite and strict TypeScript, no framework, about 11 kB of gzipped JavaScript
- Five-step booking flow with slot maths on a 15-minute grid in Chicago time
- Bookings kept in localStorage; booked slots blocked, cancelling frees them
- Calendar (.ics) export with the America/Chicago time zone
- Hand-drawn SVG identity: logo, barber monograms, gallery plates
Testing & verification
- Booking flow and keyboard navigation checked in a real browser on desktop and phone
